Analysis of Tectonic Crustal Deformation in the Mediterranean by the synergic use of predictive geophysical models and geodetic data.

This project aims at gaining a deep understanding of the mechanisms responsible for crustal deformation and of the way in which stress is accumulated and released in the Mediterranean, by means of the synergic use of predictive forward modeling and satellite data. In particular, for what concerns tectonic deformation, a numerical method is used, which accounts for the mechanical discontinuities of the lithosphere. Geodetic data GPS and VLBI) are used to both constrain and validate the forward models.
